MANTEO LODGE #521
A.F. & A.M.
Member: Grand Lodge of North Carolina
Welcome to Manteo Lodge #521’s web site! What follows is information about our Lodge:
Location: We are located at 301 (our sign says 101!) Va. Dare Trail, in Manteo, NC. This road is also known at Highway 64/264 West, and it is the main highway through the town of Manteo.
Directions:
If you are coming to our Lodge from the “north beaches” of Dare County; follow Highway 158 (also known as the Bypass, or Croatan Hwy) south through the towns of Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. Just as you pass the Tanger Outlet Mall in Nags Head, you will come to an intersection known locally as “Whalebone Junction”. Take a right, following the signs directing you to Manteo, Roanoke Island, or 64/264 East. This right turn will place you on the Nags Head Causeway, where you will pass R.V.’s Sugar Creek Restaurant and go over the Roanoke Sound bridge past Pirate’s Cove.
After you go through the light at Pirate’s Cove, the next light will be the intersection of Hwy 64/264 Business; the new Hwy 64/264 bypass, and the road to Wanchese. Turn right at this light (at the CVS Pharmacy), still following the signs directing you to Manteo/Roanoke Island. As you enter Manteo, you’ll see the Food-A-Rama on your left, and the lodge will be about ¼ mile further on your right.
Meeting Times: The Lodge has stated communications on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, starting at 7:30. In the three summer months, we meet on the 2nd Monday only. Arrive a little early, and remember to bring your dues card.
Attire: Manteo Lodge is not a formal dress lodge. As a rule, officers and members wear casual attire (polo shirts, khaki slacks, even jeans). During degree work officers will wear coats and ties, but this is not required of members and visitors.
Vacation Attire: We realize folks often times forget to pack slacks when coming to the beach, especially in the summer. While members are discouraged from wearing shorts, we understand visitors might not have slacks. So, come as you are. Obviously, no cut off’s or bathing suits, muscle shirts, or really worn tee-shirts. But, nice shorts—yes. Nice tee’s, polo shirts, “dress” sweatshirts—OK also!. A really loud “Hawaiian” shirt? We’ll make fun of you, but bring it on. Dockers without socks? Some of our members dress like that! In the winter, nice jeans are fine, as are sweaters. From time to time, we’ve even been known to allow sneakers. Mainly, we want you to attend! We love having visting brethren.
